Homecoming Service - 10/06/2024 @ 3P
Each year on the first Sunday in October, Old Starr Church holds a "Homecoming Service" where the public is welcomed to come and enjoy a Worship Service in the Church followed by a pot-luck meal in the Church Hall.
2024 represents the 251st Anniversary of Old Starr Church, and the service will be held on 10/06/2024 @ 3pm.
As the Old Starr Church once served the community in which it resides, so it again is the hope of the Trustees that this service will be one that blesses the community of Starr and the surrounding area.
Christmas CarolS
Lit by oil lamps and candles, the Christmas Carol service at Old Starr Church represents one of the most magical events of the year.
Open to the public and held on the first Sunday in December at 6p, the hour long service features the sound of voices underpinned by the old Pump Organ and Piano.
Bringing a blanket and mittens is usually a good idea to help stay warm, and the hot coco and refreshments afterwards help to keep you that way on your ride home.
History
The current Old Starr Church building was built in 1860, with the timbers being cut from the wood lot that that used to occupied the current building location. To this day a stump from one of those trees still remains preserved in the crawl-space under the church, from 160+ years ago, when it was cut down and built over.
The Church Hall previously served as the single-room Greenville Schoolhouse which was purchased by the church in 1929 for $723 and moved to its current location.
Since 1997, the church and property have been in the possession and care of the board of Trustees of Old Starr Church Inc LLC, which is made up of descendants and friends of those who previously attended the church.
More detailed history including personal remembrances of prior attenders along with copies of historic documents are coming soon.
